Car Revolution is a light hearted exploration
of the world of sports cars.
Over the course of this debut season the SCR
team will create the ultimate street/track car
beginning with an Acura RSX-S. In contrast,
the team will also build a tuner version of
the most affordable car in North America, the
KIA five door. A complete review of the manufacture
of the Noble M12 GTO is a weekly feature.
New car tests include the Subaru STi, the Dodge
Viper and the Mini Cooper S. Classic car tests
include the E-Type Jaguar, Lotus Elan and Triumph
TR3.
Lots of open track testing, visits with stars
of the SPEED World Challenge Series and the
feature, Dyno Truth or Dare make SCR a must
see for all sports car enthusiasts.
Episode One
Work begins on the Acura RSX project
car. We test a Subaru STI and a Ferrari 275
GTB. Rock Star Kazzer tests a 1923 California
Rat Rod. Jaime Wilson’s Dyno Truth or
Dare features a tuner Focus.
Episode Two
We look in depth at wheels and tires
on the Acura project, begin work on the KIA
project and test a Specter Corvette. We visit
some SCCA corner workers and rant about the
stupidity of street racing. Our pro driver Jeff
Lorriman gives a clinic on oversteer.
Episode Three
Springs and Struts are the subject discussed
on the Acura project and then track tested.
We look at SCCA solo competition as an entry
to auto racing and test a Healy and a Type R.
Our pro driver, Jeff Lorriman talks about understeer.
Episode Four
We delve into vehicle dynamics with regard
to our project Acura and go to the test track
for some brake testing. Our pros talk about
brake prep on a track car and we test a Mercedes
C230 and an original Mini.
Episode Five
Brakes are more involved than you may
think. Our expert explodes some myths and delivers
a must see oratory on the subject. We build
an intake and exhaust for our KIA which actually
adds over ten percent in horsepower. We drive
a new Mazda and an old Porsche.
Episode Six
Does a cat back exhaust really deliver
the goods? The answer is revealed amid controversy
we did not expect. Our pro racer talks us through
a nut and bolt job and we drive Mopar’s
factory built tuner car.
Episode Seven
Could a Mugen air box actually make horsepower.
You may be surprised. The modern Mini is a hair
raising tester. Our pro driver talks about driver
aids like ABS, PSM and EI EI O.
Episode Eight
Would you rip the engine out of a brand
new Acura? We do as a part of the quest for
more power. We scale a track car in a how to
segment and drive the pants off of a pair of
350Z cars.
Episode Nine
Cam shafts make power when properly applied.
Just how to do that in a high revving, high
tech v-tech is discussed in detail. 8800 RPM
anyone? We nearly ruin a perfectly good M3 and
beat the daylights out of the SVT Focus.
Episode Ten
If you have a limited slip, does that
mean you take a partial fall? We install a Mugen
piece in the hope that an LSD will make for
a shorter trip around the track. We visit with
some SPEED World Challenge drivers and challenge
the rubber on a Ferrari 512.
Episode Eleven
Clutching at straws, we seek more performance
from the Acura with a new pressure plate, clutch
disc and a very light flywheel from TODA. We
winter test an Audi S4 and feature Kazzer’s
personal ride, the baddest T Bird in the business.
Episode Twelve
Nearly finished, we dress the Acura project
car for success. We look at the human side of
performance driving and get into karting a little
with a World Formula. We test a race car only
slightly larger than a kart with over one hundred
horsepower.
Episode Thirteen
We wrap the season with track tests of
both project cars, the Noble M12 GTO and use
up some rubber on an SVT Cobra. Ever wondered
how to do an expert donut? We’ll show
you how on our victory lap.
